Emergency equipment to support children’s airway and breathing is discussed in the first of two articles on the contents of the paediatric emergency trolley and how nurses can support the best resuscitation outcomes

Abstract

Airway, breathing and cardiac support is vital in the deteriorating child to prevent progression to cardiorespiratory arrest. In this, the first of two articles about the paediatric emergency trolley, we discuss the equipment needed to support airway and breathing, and how it should be used. Our key focus is on the need for an emergency trolley that is standardised and logically structured, alongside appropriate training to support the best resuscitation outcomes.
