Phoneline: The NMC’s fitness to practice free Careline

A sign that reads NMC Nursing and Midwifery Council

Nursing Times has collected information on a series of free virtual courses and resources that are relevant to the Covid-19: Are You OK? campaign and being offered by a variety of organisations.

Nurses, midwives and nursing associates involved in fitness to practise can benefit from a free and confidential support service, which was started on 10 October 2019 by the nursing regulator.

The Nursing and Midwifery Council has partnered with CiC, an employee assistance provider, to give emotional support and practical help and advice to registrants during the fitness to practise process.

Careline was launched on Mental Health Day in 2019. Following a successful 12-month pilot, the NMC said registrants would continue to be able to access the line from 1 November 2020 onwards.

Its counsellors are experienced working with sensitive and personal information. They can also signpost you towards specialist organisations to help with specific issues.

You can contact the Fitness to Practice Careline using the freephone number 0800 587 7396.

The service is described as free, independent, confidential and non-judgemental. It is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
