The IV therapy passport: a digital solution for training
Digital Edition: The IV therapy passport: a digital solution for training
This article explores the IV therapy passport, a digital solution streamlining IV training. This initiative won the Technology and Data in Nursing Award in the 2022 Nursing Times Awards.
Abstract
A nurse-led project in London created an intravenous (IV) therapy passport, establishing a standardised approach to IV therapy training and assessment through collaboration and codesign with stakeholders. This digital IV passport system has been widely adopted across healthcare trusts, enabling the transfer of proficiency records between organisations and universities, and eliminating the need for retraining. It utilises technology for training access, practice assessment and record-keeping, resulting in significant time, resource, and cost efficiencies by ensuring training consistency and removing variation and repetition, ultimately enhancing care delivery by nurses and midwives.
